Have you ever had a good experience having bought a used video game?

by admin on December 10, 2009

I have searched everywhere for this one video game that I want for PS3 for Christmas, but cannot find it anywhere. I finally found it, but it was used. I have not bought a used game in years due to bad experiences. They usually don’t turn on, have glitches, or freeze on specific parts. I’ll get really far into the game and it will just freeze right then and there and it is to late to take it back. I have to play through the whole game worrying that it will freeze. Should I take the risk? Have you ever had a good experience with a used game?

I remember when I bought Ninja Gaiden used. The game literally froze during a cutscene after the last boss fight, which was an incredible feat to get to no less. I took the game out, cleaned it as best I could, beat the game a second time, and still didn’t get to see the full ending. I gave up after the third attempt.

Only buy used games if they let you check the disc yourself first, and only if it looks still brand new. That’s my philosophy.

I’ve only bought my used games from businesses like gamestop, not online dealers and frankley, I’ve never had a bad experience.

I have in fact bought used consoles and the only
trusty thing is to go to a store where they offer
a warranty for at least 2 or 3 months.
if you can get a warranty then play the console alot in the first 2 months
not too much though
and try to play a wide variety of games
if theres no qualms then its good to go!

never had a problem with gamestop
it depends how much it is, really
go to gamestop if you aren’t gonna get it from there
askk to see the disk before you buy it
don’t buy it if it has a scratch on it

The only place I buy used games is from GameStop. They guarantee the game works 100%. I haven’t bought from there for a while, but when I did it was a lifetime guarantee on the game as long it was in the same condition as when you bought it… they don’t sell games with scratches still on them, so they’ll know if you caused them should you try to return it that way. Go there and see if they have your game, and if they do just ask what their guarantee on the game is.

I have had good experiences. Being that it is PS3, not likely damaged unless a visible scratch on protective layer. Not like in Cartridge games where you really can’t see damage. Also there is the possibility of free updates if it is and older release.

I used to have a GameCube and every time i got a new game it was used. I used to never buy brand new games for GameCube. I think used games will work fine. If they don’t work then u can get it cleaned.

If you buy from someplace like EB games, gamestop, or even Game Xchange, then you shouldn’t have any worries. If you’ve had bad experiences with those places then maybe a second chance is in order.

Maybe I’ve just been lucky, but 95% of the time all the used games I’ve bought have been fine. My main console is an old Xbox, so I have to buy used for that, and to be frank most of the PC games I’m interested in are rather old too, and as such not available in Game or the like. While you will encounter one or two, naturally, personally at least I’ve had next to no problems with used games =)
