Is there such a thing as a store that buys back your used video games?

by admin on August 8, 2010

Besides a pawn shop? If so how does it normally work? LIke do you get a credit on a future purchase?

Just ribbing you….

Absolutely they exist. Most game-only stores take trades for store credit… Game Crazy, EB Games, Game Stop – they all take used games for trades… Obviously, new games are going to get you the most money back. Ive gotten up to 50% back on some Xbox 360 games, and occassionally even more than that (Game Crazy sells a membership that gives you 10% MORE back on trades and 10% off on used games as well – totally worth the price, considering you also get a magazine subscription…) The older the game, the less value it has. Also, the more popular the game was, the less you get back (like Halo…so many copies are being returned, it isnt "valuable" like The Orange Box is…I got $45 back for that and it was originally $60 – but few people bought it and even less returned it, so its "rare" as a used game…)

One last option is Rasputin’s Record Stores. They are also branching out into the used CD/DVD and video game world (well, they were pioneers of selling used music…) Not sure if any exist outside of California…but if there is one in your area, they will usually give you either X amount in store credit, or
X-10% in cash for used stuff – and they typically give a little more back for games than the game stores do…so they are worth checking out…

Dont forget to play the stores against each other – I never take mine back to the same place – I call Rasputins and ask how much they are offering, then I call the game store and ask how much they are offering, then I make my decision based on that!!!

Some music stores pay cash for old CDs, movies, and games.

Check your local ones… if you live near a Newbury Comics, I know they do this.

Most game stores will buy used games at reduced prices. Don’t even try with an old sports game though because you wouldn’t be likely to get more than a dollar. It really depends on the store, but many give cash or store credit.

I often find it isn’t worth it since the games don’t take up much space and I get nostalgia cravings.

Usually you can sell them at discount prices, even if there’s no case, but sadly you don’t get credit on a future purchase.

I’m sure local stores that supply videogames will buy back your used videogames. They usually resell them to other buyers for cheaper prices. I have done it several times. Big departement stores that supply videogames such as Target and Wal-Mart do not do that though. GameStop in my area buys back and I would definitely go to them first if you have a store in your area :)

I’m not sure what you have available where you live, but in my community we have a few options.

Game Crazy (ours is in our Hollywood Video store)
http://www.gamecrazy.com/
They buy and sell used games. Just take your game in, and they’ll either give you cash, store credit, or let you exchange it for another game. Store policies may differ from store to store so check out the one closest to you.

GameStop

They do the same thing. I’ve worked with GameStop more though. If you buy one of their used games and decide it’s not for you within 7 days, you can take it bake and get your money back or trade it for something else. Store policies may differ from store to store so check out the one closest to you. Employees at these stores are pretty good at helping you decide what games would be good for you.

Hope this helped!

They buy back all old video games and will either give you store credit or cash depending on what you want. They have a deal going on right now that if you return 3 you get 10% extra credit, return 4 you get 20% extra credit, and return 5 or more you get 30% extra credit. This deal is only good for store credit not cash.

There was at least 1 in Orlando, FL. My son use to buy games there quite often because they we cheaper than new. Since they sell them for less, I suspect they don’t pay much for them. You might also want to consider Ebay.
